Keep Track of SharePoint Permissions without a Third Party Tool
Posted: August 20, 2013 | Author: Tamara Bredemus | Filed under: Permissions, SharePoint | Tags: Permission |6 CommentsIt’s not very high tech, but it works. Create a spreadsheet with tabs for your SharePoint Groups/Sites Matrix and each permission level used on the site. You may need to expand the SharePoint Groups/Sites Matrix to include lists and libraries that are uniquely secured.
Here is an example of one I’ve used.
View and download a copy of the spreadsheet here.

thanks 🙂
Hi Tamara!
I’m working on a project for a client in creating something just like this. The template link above is no longer working. Would you mind sharing or updating the link?
Thanks!
I just updated the link. Thanks for letting me know it was out of order. If you need a copy of it that you can edit email me at tamara.bredemus@live.com and I will email you a copy.
Hi thanks for a great blog, this type of permission matrix is exactly what I’m looking for. Wondering though if there is any matrix that is a bit more up to date and reflects the updates made to SharePoint Online and what permission rights are available to assign these days?
Anyone can download the spreasheet and make any changes they need. That will help in case the user has created unique permissions.
This seems like a practical way to manage permissions.
